San Germán Mayor Virgilio Olivera Olivera on Tuesday welcomed seven prisoners participating in a rehabilitation program called the Community Work Program under the Municipal Department of Public Works.
“We reached an agreement with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to give a new opportunity to these prisoners to work from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. cleaning highways,” the mayor said. “We believe completely in rehabilitation and with these seven prisoners we will give them a second chance.”
“On the part of the municipal administration we give each and everyone of them a warm welcome,” Olivera added. “We know that they will be of great help and support to our colleagues at the Department of Public Works.”
Olivera added that “now more than ever Puerto Rico needs people who are committed to what they do.”
“In our city of San Germán we support this new opportunity to give [a second chance in] life,” he said.
“We are confident that in this great opportunity that we wil give to many in the near future that will allow them to enter the world of work,” he said.
