Senate president issues deadline warning to gov’t nominees

---

Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz informed Gov. Jenniffer González Colón’s cabinet nominees on Thursday that they must submit their documents by Feb. 28 to complete the confirmation process.

“Anyone who does not comply will have their appointment dismissed in the Senate on the day following the session,” Rivera Schatz stated in a written announcement through his social media. “There are 7,500 summaries in the vault.”

The Senate leader noted that designated Secretary of State Verónica Ferraiuoli Hornedo, who was appointed on or before Jan. 12, will be evaluated first in the House of Representatives. The Senate will not address that appointment until the process in the House is completed. He emphasized that the other designated officials must submit all requested information as soon as possible.

Rivera Schatz also announced that the public hearing for the Justice secretary will take place on Saturday, March 1, at 10 a.m. in the Leopoldo Figueroa Room. He invited citizens to submit comments on any nominee by emailing comentariosnombramientos@senado.pr.gov or by visiting the Senate offices.

The Senate president reminded those who wish to submit proposals that they can do so in person and reiterated that his priority is for the nominees to meet the established requirements before being considered for confirmation.
