Gov. Jenniffer González Colón on Tuesday announced the expansion of medical device company Stryker Puerto Rico LLC in Humacao, further solidifying its commitment to the island as a strategic destination for high-tech manufacturing.
The company has leased a new facility with the goal of increasing its production capacity through investments in infrastructure, machinery and equipment. As part of the expansion, Stryker will create 46 new jobs, resulting in an estimated additional annual payroll of $1,758,160.
At the announcement in Humacao, the governor was joined by U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, (R-N.Y.), a member of the Ways and Means Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives; Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC) Secretary Sebastián Negrón Reichard; Industrial Development Co. (PRIDCO) Executive Director Eric Santiago Justiniano; and Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration Executive Director Gabriella Bofelli. Also present were the Humacao Mayor Rosamar Trujillo Plumey, district Sens. Wanda Soto Tolentino and Luis Daniel Colón, Rep. Sol Y. Higgins Cuadrado and Stryker Puerto Rico Senior Manufacturing Director Joy Maldonado.
“This expansion is great news for Humacao and the entire region, as it represents more jobs, increased investment, and development for our community,” the governor said. “Stryker reaffirms its confidence in Puerto Rico as a key center for the manufacturing of medical devices, strengthening our position in this highly regulated and competitive sector. The quality of our workforce, combined with our administration’s commitment to facilitating business growth, continues to benefit the island’s economy.”
Negrón Reichard emphasized the positive impact of the expansion.
“Stryker has demonstrated its commitment to Puerto Rico through significant investments and the creation of well-paid jobs,” he said. “Its success in Arroyo, with over $100 million invested in the past four years and a workforce of 1,308 employees, exemplifies the growth potential that the company has on the island. The new plant in Humacao will continue to boost the local economy and reinforce Puerto Rico as an ideal destination for advanced manufacturing companies.”
Santiago Justiniano noted meanwhile that last month Stryker signed a lease agreement with PRIDCO to operate in a new facility of over 142,000 square feet in Humacao. The new space, he said, will complement the company’s operations at Las Guásimas industrial park in Arroyo, where they already have a 227,000-square-foot plant.
