Ferrao Delgado acknowledges right to peaceful protest

University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Luis Ferrao Delgado said Wednesday that he respects the right of students and faculty to express their concerns and hold demonstrations in defense of their interests.

He stressed that the UPR is an academic institution that values and protects the right to free expression, which includes the right of members of the university community to protest and raise their voices against decisions they consider harmful, such as the elimination of academic programs.

However, he also stressed that this right must be exercised within the framework of mutual respect, ensuring that protests and demonstrations do not affect the well-being and right to study of other members of the university community.

In this regard, Ferrao Delgado called for maintaining an atmosphere of respect and coexistence within the campus, in which opinions can be expressed peacefully, without engaging in actions that alter the normal progress of academic activities.

The UPR president also stressed the importance of continuing dialogue with university groups, calling for unity and collaboration among all sectors of the university community.
