Managing the Autoexpreso highway toll system will be a key focus for the newly appointed chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in the island’s House of Representatives, José “Cheito” Hernández Concepción.

“As you are aware, ensuring the transparency and effectiveness of the Autoexpreso system has been one of our main objectives since we entered the Legislature in December 2022,” stated the District 3 (San Juan) representative. “Now, in my capacity as chairman of the Transportation committee responsible for […] this system, my goal is to ensure that it operates correctly, adhering to all performance and operational metrics.”

“We aim to eliminate mile-long [traffic] jams, eliminate phantom fines or [unjustified] penalties; our objective is to establish a well-functioning system, and we are committed to achieving that,” Hernández emphasized.

He mentioned that he plans to convene a meeting with the secretary-designate of Transportation and Public Works, Edwin González-Montalvo, to initiate a work agenda for assessing the operator of the Autoexpreso system, Professional Account Management.
