Representative Víctor Parés Otero from District 4 (San Juan) supported the selection of engineer Josué Colón Ortiz as the new “energy czar” this week, stating that he will collaborate closely with the appointee to speed up the rehabilitation of the island’s electric infrastructure, particularly the generation aspect.
“Choosing engineer Josué Colón was a wise decision,” remarked the New Progressive Party representative. “His extensive understanding of the electric system’s operations, encompassing both the transmission and distribution elements, as well as generation components, ensures effective oversight of these platforms managed by private operators. Furthermore, he is well-versed in the permitting processes with federal agencies to address the electric system’s requirements.”
“From the House of Representatives, we will cooperate closely with engineer Josué Colón, with whom we have enjoyed strong communication for years and who shares a common understanding regarding the electrical system,” Parés stated, noting his role on the Energy Transformation Committee established by Gov. Jenniffer González Colón. “We will arrange a meeting with the new czar promptly to explore how we can assist his initiatives and what legislative support is necessary to realize energy transformation, accelerate reconstruction, and [enable] the establishment of a backup system.”
On Wednesday, the governor designated Colón Ortiz, formerly leading the Electric Power Authority, to the newly established Cabinet position. He was also appointed as the executive director of the Public-Private Partnerships Authority.
“Congratulations, I genuinely feel it’s happening for me,” Parés expressed. “You are an outstanding asset, and I am thrilled that your exceptional qualities are being acknowledged.”
