Appointed Public Safety chief calls on community to utilize anonymous tip line

Arturo Garffer, the appointed head of the Department of Public Safety, confirmed on Monday that an individual who was murdered in Sabana Grande was the suspect in an attack on a 90-year-old man during a residential burglary in that area.
“A nonagenarian was assaulted during a home invasion. This morning we discovered that the individual responsible was tracked down and killed,” Garffer stated in reply to media inquiries. “I urge the community to let us know anonymously, if they choose, about this kind of information so we can take action, but street justice has resolved this matter.”
“That is the preliminary information,” he continued. “The case is currently being investigated, and once the details from this morning’s incident are clarified, it will be forwarded to the Investigation Division.”
Early Monday, authorities reported a homicide at approximately 12:07 a.m., at building 10 of the Sabana Grande residential complex.
Police indicated they received a call via the 9-1-1 Emergency System. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of Kenneth Camacho Horrach, 34, inside an apartment.
The elderly man, aged 90, was assaulted during a burglary that took place early Sunday morning on highway PR-328, kilometer 2.8, in the Rayo Guaras neighborhood of Sabana Grande.
Later that day, Lt. Aníbal Pérez of the Mayagüez police region’s Criminal Investigation Corps stated that authorities have no evidence linking Camacho Horrach to the assault on the nonagenarian.
“We are actively investigating, seeking witnesses, interviewing family members, and reviewing video footage,” Pérez told NotiCentro (WAPA TV). “There is information suggesting this individual may be connected to a burglary that occurred in the Guamá neighborhood of Sabana Grande, but for now, we do not have anything that ties him to those incidents.”
