During the festivities of Three Kings Day, Gov. Jenniffer González Colón announced that she will disclose new Cabinet appointments today, though she refrained from naming any individuals. The governor addressed the press on Monday while distributing gifts and engaging with attendees at the traditional Fiesta de Reyes, organized by La Fortaleza and hosted at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan’s T-Mobile Convention District.
González Colón mentioned that she is in the midst of assessing candidates for various roles.
“I am not going to disclose any names,” she stated. “I have been reviewing individuals. I have been consulting with current staff for various matters, some regarding advisory roles, others for different types of positions.”
The governor aims to finalize most of her administration’s roles by the start of the legislative session on Jan. 13. “You will observe the completion of the process,” she noted. “You will see more on Wednesday, for sure, and we will have the largest portion, if not all, by then.”
So far, González Colón has put forth over 20 nominations for significant government roles. Several essential appointments remain outstanding, including the secretaries for the Treasury, Economic Development and Commerce, Corrections and Rehabilitation, Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Recreation and Sports, and Natural and Environmental Resources departments.
Other positions still awaiting appointments include the directors of the Police Bureau, the Bureau for Emergency Management and Disaster Administration, and the Office of the Women’s Advocate. The governor has yet to identify a candidate for executive director of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA), which does not fall under Cabinet roles. PREPA, a government-operated utility, is responsible for supplying electricity to over 1.3 million residential and commercial clients in Puerto Rico.
Three Kings tradition thrives in Moca
Also on Monday, the mayor-elect of Moca, Efraín “Franco” Barreto Barreto, alongside his wife, Ermelinda Valentín, conveyed their appreciation for being able to enjoy a lovely morning at the Festival de Reyes La Familia y la Amistad Inc. in the Voladoras neighborhood of the northwestern town, promoting camaraderie and love during the celebrations.
The couple participated in the Caminata de Reyes from the Cuchillas neighborhood, advocating for the nurturing of Christmas traditions. They also attended the Velario de Reyes of the Ramos family, where music, tradition, and culture were highlighted. Barreto underscored the significance of honoring tradition, unity, and heritage, as it promotes community engagement and fortifies the community as a whole.
Moca is renowned for its strong dedication to upholding traditions, including the Promise of Kings, which enjoys robust participation in neighborhoods like Naranjo and Cuchillas. The Promise of Kings, an expression of faith and gratitude, unites the community.
Barreto’s inauguration ceremony is set for Saturday, Jan. 18. The event will commence at 5 p.m. at the Nuestra Señora de la Monserrate Parish in the central urban area, followed by official proceedings in the public square and concluding with a festive community gathering featuring music and entertainment.
