Governor Jenniffer González Colón has broadened the classic Three Kings Day (Epiphany) festivities in La Fortaleza to encompass the entire island.
Today, events are set to occur in San Juan at the Coca Cola Music Hall-T Mobile District, in Añasco at the Las Olas Pools, and in Manatí at the Luis Muñoz Marín Recreation Plaza.
Celebrations commenced over the weekend in municipalities like Vieques, Culebra, Fajardo, and Ponce, among others.
González Colón visited Vieques, where the Three Kings joined her in distributing presents to children in the public plaza, where Plenealo was performing and Melwin Cedeño was entertaining. The governor and her spouse, Dr. José Yovín Vargas Llavona, were accompanied by Speaker of the House of Representatives Carlos “Johnny” Méndez Núñez, Vieques Mayor José “Junito” Corcino Acevedo, Carolina District Senators Héctor Joaquín Sánchez Álvarez and Marissa Jiménez Santoni, and the Executive Director of the Office for Socioeconomic and Community Development of Puerto Rico, Astrid Piñeiro.
In Culebra, the governor, along with her husband and the House speaker, were welcomed by Mayor Edilberto Romero Llovet.
Children received their gifts from the Three Wise Men at the Fine Arts Center, where they enjoyed entertainers, inflatable bounce houses, and games.
In Fajardo, youngsters delighted in the educational attractions that the Firefighters Bureau brought to the Antonio Rafael Barceló public plaza, alongside events organized with other government entities.
Joining the governor, her husband, and the House speaker were Fajardo Mayor José Aníbal “Joey” Meléndez Méndez, first lady Yarenis López de Jesús, the mayor’s mother Diana Méndez de Meléndez, Ceiba Mayor Samuel “Samy” Rivera Báez, Carolina District Sens. Sánchez Álvarez and Jiménez Santoni, and Firefighters Bureau Commissioner Josué Piñeiro Torres.
Three Kings Day events in Ponce took place at City Hall and the Plaza de las Delicias. Mayor Marlese Sifre Rodríguez attended with her family; Peñuelas Mayor Josean González Febres; Representatives Gabriel Rodríguez Aguiló, Ángel Fourquet Cordero, and Ensol Rodríguez Torres; Senators Marially González Huertas and Jamie Barlucea Maldonado; and designated Family Secretary Suzanne Roig Fuertes.
La Fortaleza provides insights into the Three Kings Day festivities
Roig Fuertes shared information on Sunday about the “STEM KIDS FEST” project, which continues today with the gift-giving event named “Kings with the People” (Reyes con el Pueblo).
This initiative, spearheaded by Gov. Jenniffer González Colón, aims to integrate STEM into the early development of young children.
“Encouraging STEM for kids through government action represents a transformative opportunity for Puerto Rico’s educational and social future,” Roig Fuertes stated in a written declaration. “This initiative, led by Governor Jenniffer González Colón, illustrates her vision of prioritizing children within public policies, acknowledging that the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are crucial tools for equipping new generations to navigate the challenges of an increasingly globalized and technological environment. By embedding these fields into early child development, not only are curiosity and creative learning enhanced, but the groundwork for cultivating a more innovative, competitive, and prosperous nation is also fortified. Through this proposal, the Governor reinforces her dedication to positioning Puerto Rico as a frontrunner in advanced education, securing a promising outlook for our island and its youth.”
The distribution of “Reyes con el Pueblo” gifts is a collaborative effort between private companies and the island government (Tourism Company, Family Department-ACUDEN, Department of Housing, Aqueduct and Sewer Authority, Puerto Rico Lottery) along with the municipalities of Bayamón, Guaynabo, and Ciales to facilitate the delivery of toys and experiences in each location. This partnership has increased the spread of toys and, as seen in last week’s inauguration, resulted in savings for the government.
Today, the governor will also take part in the Kings with the People events, which commence at the Coca Cola Music Hall in the T-Mobile District of San Juan at 9 a.m. In Añasco, celebrations will begin at 11 a.m. at the Las Olas Pool, and at 1 p.m. they will kick off at the Luis Muñoz Rivera Recreation Plaza in Manatí.
