Governor-elect Jenniffer González Colón is hosting a town celebration in Old San Juan to mark her inauguration, which will feature performances from both local and international artists, including Natti Natasha.
Scheduled to commence at 2 p.m., the event will be privately funded and will occur at the Plaza del Quinto Centenario, also referred to as Totem Plaza. Other acts include Algarete, DJ Playero, Joseph Fonseca, Bri La Pelúa, DJ Nelson, Alberto Stylee, Rey Pirin, Ranking Stone, and Grupo Manía.
Inauguration ceremonies are set for Thursday, Jan. 2, starting at 8 a.m. with a Mass at Santa Teresita Church on Loíza Street in Santurce, open to the public.
Various activities will take place early in the day at the Capitol, including the swearing-in of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the governor’s Cabinet. Following that, a pictorial stamp cancellation by the United States Postal Service will occur.
The swearing-in ceremony for the governor will happen at 10:30 a.m. outside the Capitol on the north side (facing the sea), and it will also be open to the public.
Afterward, the governor will walk from El Capitolio to La Fortaleza and will later participate in the town party.
A lineup of musical talents, including Ana Isabel, Gisselle, Manny Manuel, Celinés, Lourdes Robles, Juan Vélez, Adeán Cabán Butter, Luna, and Hilda Ramos will partake in the morning’s protocol event, conducted by maestro Cuco Peña.
Public parking will be accessible at La Puntilla, Doña Fela, and Paseo Portuario.
Transportation will be provided from the Tren Urbano station at stop 26 in Santurce.
On Wednesday, Jan. 1, at 6 a.m., police assigned to the Capitol will initiate the closure of Avenida Constitución, redirecting traffic to Paseo Covadonga near the Treasury Department exit. Luis Muñoz Rivera Avenue will also be closed at the intersection with Rev. Gerardo Dávila, diverting traffic to Avenida Constitución and Paseo Covadonga.
At 4 p.m., the Field Operations Superintendency will expand the closure of Avenida Constitución at Plaza Colón, redirecting traffic towards the Tapia Theater. Luis Muñoz Rivera Avenue will similarly be closed at the Esteves (Guardia Nacional) intersection with traffic diverted to Avenida Constitución.
On Thursday, Jan. 2, from 4 a.m., Highway Patrol will close Luis Muñoz Rivera Avenue at Paseo Caribe, redirecting vehicles to Manuel Fernández Juncos Avenue. Additionally, Fortaleza Street will be closed, directing traffic to Tetuán Street. Cross-street closures will occur from San Francisco Street to Fortaleza Street.
Motorized personnel will oversee local traffic on Paseo Caribe and near the Caribe Hilton Hotel; traffic will be rerouted on San Agustín Street. Traffic restrictions on Paseo Covadonga will begin at 4 a.m.
The Puerto Rico Police Bureau stated that residents will receive ongoing updates regarding the traffic control plan for vehicle access to Old San Juan through official social media channels.
