On Tuesday, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, led by Executive Director Carlos Mercado Santiago, celebrated the arrivals of the cruise ships Scarlet Lady from Virgin Voyages and Silver Ray from SilverSea Cruises, which together are expected to generate an economic impact of approximately $2.2 million.

The Scarlet Lady, capable of accommodating 2,762 passengers and 1,150 crew, is set to call on San Juan 10 times during the 2024-2025 season, yielding a projected economic benefit of around $2.1 million. The Silver Ray, which is scheduled for two visits this fiscal year, will provide an additional $130,000 boost to the local economy.

“The expansion of services and the inclusion of San Juan in the itineraries of these two specialized brands highlight the robustness of our cruise industry and Puerto Rico’s appeal as a premier luxury destination,” Mercado Santiago stated in a formal announcement.

Clarivette Díaz, the general manager of San Juan Global Port, noted the significance of luxury cruise arrivals in fostering local business prospects.

“This growth will empower entrepreneurs to enhance their offerings with upscale services, including the introduction of premium options in the Port of San Juan, in line with evolving market trends,” she remarked.

Both vessels, which recently finished their Mediterranean season, will embark on journeys through the Caribbean and South America. The Silver Ray will explore destinations including Colombia, Peru, Brazil, and Argentina, while the Scarlet Lady, departing from Miami, will stop in the Bahamas, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.
