This Saturday, Casa Pueblo will commemorate the launch of the Plaza de la Independencia Energética during its annual Fiesta del Sol, featuring music, workshops, and exhibitions at its central location in Adjuntas.
“This marks the establishment of the first solar microgrid network in Puerto Rico, serving as a blueprint for the future, achieved through community engagement,” stated Casa Pueblo Director Arturo Massol Deyá. “This venue reimagines the significance of energy in the progress and lifestyle of a community.”
The plaza will feature a 55-kilowatt solar microgrid, a garden, a cistern, and murals created by nine Puerto Rican artists, including a piece by Antonio Martorell. This location aims to function as an energy sanctuary for residents, businesses, and the wider community, also hosting the Solar Microgrid Research Center.
Festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. with a coffee roasting event utilizing beans sourced from Finca La Olimpia, followed by workshops and the screening of the documentary “Casa Pueblo: la gota que se volvía río” (Casa Pueblo: The Drop That Became a River). At 12:45 p.m., attendees will head to the plaza for the inaugural ceremony, which will be led by Millie Gil.
The celebration will showcase musical acts by Tony Rivera, Mapeyé, Chelimar Ramos, the Casa Pueblo Choir, and various troubadours, culminating in a Christmas celebration. The events will be aired on Radio Casa Pueblo 1020 AM.
