Disagreement regarding campaign signage concludes with a physical confrontation

---

An argument concerning a political poster escalated into a physical confrontation involving the previous mayor of Maunabo from the Popular Democratic Party, Jorge Márquez Pérez, who was recently defeated in the general elections, as reported by the Puerto Rico police.

This event took place at a three-level building owned by the Gallardo family, where Márquez Pérez runs a stable agency on the ground floor.

The report indicates that Márquez Pérez had prior disputes with the owner. The complaint states that Diego Gallardo claims he was hit in the face by Márquez Pérez while he was putting up a rooftop sign supporting the incumbent New Progressive Party mayor, Ángel Omar Lafuente Amaro, whose campaign Gallardo is part of.

Gallardo characterized the assault as an act of “frustration” stemming from the ex-mayor’s electoral loss.

At least one eyewitness corroborated this account, stating that Márquez Pérez lost his temper upon noticing the sign.
