Faith-oriented organizations to be acknowledged during Senate inaugural meeting

Newly appointed Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz stated on Monday that preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Legislative Assembly scheduled for January 2 and the inaugural session on January 13, both set for 11 a.m.

Rivera Schatz further revealed that approximately 100 religious leaders, including pastors and priests, will join the island’s Senate members during the inaugural session.

“Given the challenges we’ve faced, from Hurricanes Irma and Maria to the COVID-19 crisis and earthquakes, it is evident that churches and faith-based entities, along with mayors, serve as the primary support and aid for families,” the incoming Senate leader remarked.

“For us in the Senate, having the dedication of religious leaders and faith-based groups is essential,” Rivera Schatz emphasized. “The new Senate will start its operations acknowledging the significant role of these organizations, and we will, through our actions, manifest our steadfast commitment to collaborate in ensuring a Puerto Rico that upholds family values and our traditions.”

He also mentioned that he will be sharing details about upcoming events as well as the legislation that has been prepared and will be submitted on January 2.
