On Monday, Puerto Rico Supreme Court Chief Justice Maite Oronoz Rodríguez, along with Dominican Republic Supreme Court Chief Justice Henry Molina, launched the 2nd International Seminar on Justice with a Gender Perspective, commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
“Precisely a decade ago, the Ibero-American Judicial Summit made a significant advancement by establishing the Permanent Commission on Gender and Access to Justice,” stated Oronoz Rodríguez in an official release. “I am profoundly dedicated to this cause.”
This event brings together judges and experts from across Latin America, featuring representatives from Puerto Rico, Spain, Cuba, Colombia, Argentina, and other nations, to deliberate on the rights to equality and non-discrimination in the justice system while also examining matters relating to gender violence, technology, access to justice, and human rights.
Molina highlighted that a gender perspective in justice is not only an ethical imperative but also a crucial foundation for ensuring equality and dignity. He additionally noted that gender-based violence impacts not just women but also their families and communities.
The seminar, part of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence,” features discussions on access to justice in situations of inequality, symbolic and political violence, and judicial stereotypes. The proceedings are being streamed on YouTube.
