Aníbal Vega Borges, the Electoral Commissioner of the New Progressive Party, stated that the forthcoming legislature will implement the Minority Law for the House of Representatives; however, he asserted that the candidates from the Citizen Victory Movement will still lack sufficient votes to secure a seat.
Vega Borges indicated that Mariana Nogales, Eliezer Morales, Eva Prados, and Rafael Bernabe possess enough votes to gain a spot in the Legislature.
He characterized the political dealings between the MVC and the Puerto Rican Independence Party as a “Coalition of Betrayal” after it came to light that some PIP candidates garnered more votes than those from the MVC.
Mariana Nogales Molinelli, a representative of the Citizen Victory Movement (MVC), mentioned that the alternate president of the State Election Commission (CEE), Jessika Padilla Rivera, had indicated that the SEC would be tabulating the write-in votes.
The vote scrutiny process has been marked by its sluggish pace due to inconsistencies in documents, returned ballot boxes, a decrease in officials, and disputes stemming from revised instructions.
“By Tuesday, we will have a clearer understanding of the situation in San Juan. The primary reason for the delay is that new rules and criteria are being established daily, which extends the process. Moreover, there is added scrutiny regarding San Juan. Once you move outside San Juan, everything else progresses more swiftly,” Vega Borges added.
