The comedian who labeled Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” has refused to apologize, as reported by Politico earlier this week.
Tony Hinchcliffe stated that he is apologizing “to absolutely nobody” for his remark about Puerto Rico at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally just days before the election, according to Politico.
“I have a deep appreciation for Puerto Ricans; they are intelligent individuals. They possess both intellect and street smarts, and they are savvy enough to recognize when they are being used as political tools,” Hinchcliffe mentioned at the start of the latest episode of his “Kill Tony” podcast, recorded the day after the rally and released on Tuesday. “Currently, that is indeed the situation. And, uh, I’m not apologizing to anyone.”
“Not to Puerto Ricans, not to whites, not to Blacks, not to Palestinians, not to Jews, and not even to my own mother, who I poked fun at during the performance,” he further elaborated.
Hinchcliffe’s remarks during the rally, delivered in a warm-up act well ahead of Trump’s appearance, ignited a media frenzy and strong bipartisan outrage in the aftermath, with some anticipating that the controversy might cost the now president-elect support from Latino communities.
Nevertheless, Trump triumphed over his rival Kamala Harris by a significant margin.
