On Monday, the Puerto Rico Comptroller’s Office (OCPR, as it is known in Spanish) disclosed the schedule for mandatory courses on the utilization of public resources and funds that elected officials including senators, representatives, mayors, and municipal legislators are required to complete prior to taking office.

“This training aims to inform elected officials about government accounting principles, the management of public properties, adhering to regulatory bodies, and the budgeting process and oversight, among other topics,” said Comptroller Yesmín Valdivieso in an official announcement.

The sessions for senators and representatives are set for Wednesday, December 4, while mayors will attend on Tuesday, December 10. These in-person courses will span 7.5 hours. Meanwhile, municipal legislators will participate in virtual sessions on Thursday, December 12 and Friday, December 13, which will last 8 hours.

Candidates who have been certified as elected by the State Elections Commission will be informed of the mandatory training via letter and email. For further details, inquiries can be directed to the OCPR’s Office of Prevention and External Guidance at (787) 754-3030, extensions 5500 to 5508.
