Hernández Rivera tops the race for resident commissioner as 16% of the votes are counted

As of 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, with 16 percent of the votes counted, Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón from the New Progressive Party (NPP) was in the lead for the governor’s position in Puerto Rico with 38.8% of the votes recorded when the STAR went to press.

Following her, Juan Dalmau Ramírez, the candidate from the alliance of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) and the Citizen Victory Movement (MVC), held second place with 30.0% of the votes, whereas Rep. José Manuel Ortiz González, representing the Popular Democratic Party (PDP), was third with 24.7%. Javier Jiménez Pérez of the Dignity Project trailed far behind in fourth place with 6%.

In the resident commissioner race, Pablo José Hernández Rivera from the PDP was in the lead with 47% of the votes counted so far, with 16% of the votes in. Sen. William Villafañe Ramos from the NPP was in second place at 35%, and Ana Irma Rivera Lassen of the MVC-PIP alliance secured third with 8.3%.

Roberto Karlo Velázquez Correa from the PIP and Viviana Rivera from the Dignity Project were respectively in fourth and fifth places, having received 4.8% and 4.4% of the votes at the time of reporting.

In the unofficial tally for the two primary U.S. presidential candidates, Democrat Kamala Harris had garnered 75% of the votes at press time, while Republican Donald Trump, the former president, was at 24.8%.
