On Wednesday, Governor Pedro Rafael Pierluisi Urrutia, alongside Carlos Mercado, the executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, unveiled new initiatives aimed at enhancing the tourism industry’s expansion on the Island, during the Tourism Innovation Summit held at the Coca-Cola Music Hall, which gathered tourism, hospitality, and government leaders.
“Tourism in Puerto Rico has achieved remarkable milestones, and my administration is committed to establishing the Island as a competitive global destination while maintaining our natural beauty and cultural legacy,” stated Pierluisi Urrutia in a statement.
The governor noted the rise in hotel occupancy rates, surpassing 80 percent during crucial seasons, and the growth in the influx of international visitors. Furthermore, he emphasized Puerto Rico’s promotion as a cruise hub in the Caribbean and the backing of campaigns like “Live Boricua,” which have enhanced the local tourism appeal.
Additionally, Mercado pointed out that the Summit served as a venue to reinforce the tourism sector through innovation and technology. “Innovation elevates our standards and provides tailored experiences, aiding the economic growth of the entire island,” he remarked.
The event featured presentations focused on ecotourism and cultural tourism, along with discussions surrounding the challenges and prospects for tourism development in Puerto Rico.
