On Tuesday, Arecibo Mayor Carlos “Tito” Ramírez Irizarry declared that the personnel of the northern coastal town is all set for the commencement of La Marginal Pro, a qualifying competition organized by the World Surf League (WSL), where over 170 surfers will battle it out in the waves at Rastreal Beach.

Ramírez Irizarry, alongside Oscar Martínez, President of the Puerto Rico Surfing Federation, noted that one of the WSL’s foremost qualifiers begins today with the qualifying heats and will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 3. Registration has been finalized, with data indicating that La Marginal Pro is the largest WSL event within the North American circuit.

“This venue offers an exceptional opportunity for both Puerto Rican and international surfers to showcase their talents and skills in surfing,” stated Ramírez Irizarry. “We are thrilled about this event that rekindles global attention on our Villa del Capitán Correa.”

“The top surfers worldwide will be gathering at Rastreal Beach in Arecibo. Participants primarily hail from North America, Canada, Central America, the Caribbean, and Puerto Rico,” Martínez mentioned. “Among them are 14 Puerto Rican athletes who enjoy the support of their local fans.”

The local group includes 16 male and nine female competitors vying for their chance to compete in the Surfing World Championships. Notable names include Havanna Cabrera, Mia Calderón, Jolari Carreras, Dwight Pastrana, and Ricardo Delgado, along with Brian Toht, the up-and-coming Puerto Rican surfer who shone at the ISA World Surfing Games.

Additional attractions for attendees include live entertainment, with performances scheduled from La Secta and Los Rabanes.

“Visitors can also relish the diverse culinary offerings from local businesses while discovering more about the city’s happenings and the tourist spots that define Arecibo,” Ramírez Irizarry commented.
