Judicial branch establishes designated hours for general elections

---

The judicial sector of the island’s administration revealed on Thursday the adoption of a unique operating timetable in its offices this upcoming weekend and the following weekend, November 2-3, in addition to Tuesday, Nov. 5, which is the day of the general elections.

This unique timetable was disclosed by Sigfrido Steidel Figueroa, the head of the Courts Administration, in adherence to Administrative Order OAJP-2024-129.

“The Judicial Centers across the 13 Judicial Regions will function from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to address electoral issues that may arise during these periods, guaranteeing accessibility in all regions,” stated Steidel Figueroa in an official statement.

The Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court offices will also be open during the same hours to receive any documents pertaining to electoral matters. Criminal complaints can be submitted via the Unified Case Management and Administration System, commonly referred to as SUMAC.

Moreover, attorneys are required to submit civil cases using the electronic platform, while individuals representing themselves may do so at the appropriate judicial center during the designated special hours.

For instances where a vote is contested or if appeals against the State Elections Commission are initiated, those should be submitted at the San Juan Judicial Center, in line with the Electoral Code.

Further details can be obtained by reviewing Administrative Order OAJP-2024-129 or by contacting the judicial branch’s information line at 787-641-6263.
