A man was tragically killed Wednesday morning while having breakfast at a roadside establishment after being struck by a vehicle on highway PR-309 in Hormigueros.

As per initial reports, the 70-year-old driver of a red Ford Ranger, named Pedro Nicolás Sanabria Tirado, a resident of Lajas, was heading towards San Germán on highway PR-114 when he lost control near the intersection with PR-309 and collided with a snack bar adjacent to a fast food truck called “El Mofongazo.”

Carlos Ismael Cupeles Pabón, a 65-year-old man from Cabo Rojo who was dining at the snack bar, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators from the Highway Patrol Division, the Technical Services Division of the Mayagüez Criminal Investigation Corps, along with the on-duty prosecutor were present at the site examining the incident.
