Gov’t secures laptops for educators in public schools through $40 million investment

To enhance and modernize the technological resources available to educators within the island’s Department of Education, the General Services Administration (GSA) has procured 27,486 laptops, totaling an investment of $39,601,750.36.

This acquisition was executed through a multiple award strategy, under Centralized Contract RFP 23J-17251-R1, which ensures transparency and a competitive supplier selection process.

The purchase, which encompasses laptops, carrying cases, various accessories, and warranties, aims to directly support teachers by equipping them with the essential technological tools to enhance their educational efficacy. The procurement was overseen by the GSA, employing a bidding process with several vendors.

GSA Administrator Karla Mercado Rivera highlighted the transparency and thoroughness of the procurement procedure, affirming that “the General Services Administration has guaranteed that this procurement was carried out in a transparent and open fashion, adhering to the highest levels of openness to ensure government entities receive the best offer.”

She further noted that “[a]ll phases of this tender are publicly accessible on the GSA website. …”
