Trujillo Alto's mayor announces three days of mourning following deadly explosion.

The mayor of Trujillo Alto, Pedro Rodríguez González, issued an executive order this week designating three days of mourning for Maricarmen Maldonado García, a resident of the Encantada neighborhood, who tragically lost her life in a gas explosion at her residence.

An interfaith ceremony was scheduled for Wednesday at the Lakeside Club in Trujillo Alto.

“We are still in shock over what occurred yesterday [Monday],” the mayor expressed. “These are moments of profound sadness for everyone, but it is our responsibility to provide support to the entire community.”

Rodríguez González mentioned that Maldonado García was the daughter of a prominent local businessperson.

The ceremony on Wednesday was set to feature pastors, priests, and a music ministry to express solidarity with the residents of Encantada.

The explosion took place on Monday morning at the home due to an apparent gas leak. Earlier reports indicated that a man was hospitalized with injuries from the explosion, which impacted approximately 22 homes. High-ranking officials from the Puerto Rico Firefighters Bureau stated that the blast was felt a considerable distance away and jeopardized the structures of nearby houses.
