At minimum 6 fatalities and multiple injuries reported in Tel Aviv shooting

On Tuesday, Israeli police and emergency services reported that at least six individuals lost their lives and 12 others were injured when two assailants opened fire on a light rail train in Tel Aviv.

Authorities categorized the incident as a terrorist act and confirmed that the assailants were killed on-site. No group quickly took responsibility for the attack.

Moments following the shooting, Israel’s air defense system successfully intercepted a barrage of missiles over Tel Aviv, resulting in loud booms and vivid explosions lighting up the night sky.

“The police forces are managing the situation amidst a missile strike,” the police stated regarding the shooting incident. “The situation is under control.”

This shooting occurred just a day after Israel launched an operation into Lebanon following a series of severe assaults on Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Lebanese militia. Haim Sargarov, the police commander for the Tel Aviv district, informed reporters that the attackers were “not Israeli.” In Israel, the term “terrorism” is predominantly used to refer to attacks perpetrated by Palestinian militants.
