OOPS! Governor had good news, but this happened…

Just moments after Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares reported the good news that the Electric Power Authority (AEE) had reached the goal of 50% of power generation in the island, a massive outage was reported that left municipalities in the metro area and some in the north without service.

The director of generation of the public corporation, Justo González Torres, reported that a technical failure in unit seven of the San Juan plant caused the failure of the 50,000 line of 230,000 volts, which runs from the Cambalache plant in Arecibo to the Manati transmission center.

According to González Torres, said breakdown in the system caused the interruption of the electric service in the metropolitan area that includes Bayamón, Guaynabo, San Juan, Carolina and surrounding municipalities.

The official indicated that PREPA’s technical staff is working to normalize the system to the state it was in before the failure occurred and restore the electric service as soon as possible.
