Helene upgraded to Category 1 Hurricane as it takes aim at Florida

Hurricane Helene is intensifying as it moves toward the U.S. Gulf Coast. Currently a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 80 mph, it could strengthen into a destructive Category 3 storm, bringing life-threatening storm surges up to 15 feet and flood risks across a wide area. Helene is expected to make landfall in Florida’s Big Bend tomorrow, and evacuation orders are in effect. The National Hurricane Center has issued storm surge warnings, urging residents to prepare for dangerous conditions.
