An alligator was captured yesterday at the “Virgencita” Bridge in the municipality of Toa Alta.
The citizen, Jaime Santos Ramos, published on the social networks images of the capture of the reptile.
He also urged that people be careful because “if there is one, there are more, watch out in the La Plata River.”
For years, Puerto Rico has been plagued with alligators which have been imported illegally primarily to be sold in the black market. The species is not native to the island. Non-native species can have various negative effects on the local ecosystem.
