On Thursday, Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia received Puerto Rico’s two medalists from this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Sebastián Rivera, at La Fortaleza.

The governor praised the Olympic medalists, calling them “two of our most significant sources of pride.”

“Their remarkable accomplishments at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are a genuine reflection of their commitment, hard work, and love for Puerto Rico,” Pierluisi shared on his social media. “You have represented our flag with honor and continue to demonstrate to the whole world what it means to be Puerto Rican.”

Camacho-Quinn, originally from Charleston, South Carolina but residing in Orlando, Florida, secured the bronze medal in the women’s 100-meter hurdles in Paris after earning gold in the same event at the Tokyo 2020 Games. Rivera, hailing from Toms River, New Jersey, captured the bronze medal in freestyle wrestling at 143 pounds (65 kilograms) in Paris. Just last week, the three-time All-American and 2023 world silver medalist took on the role of assistant wrestling coach at Columbia University in New York.

“The people of Puerto Rico are incredibly proud of you,” Pierluisi remarked. “Thank you for embodying excellence and for reminding us that with resolve and passion, no goal is unattainable. Keep pushing forward, champions!”
