Governor examines dredging at Carraízo reservoir

Reported by The Star Staff

On Wednesday, Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia and Doriel Pagán Crespo, Executive President of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA), assessed the dredging operations at the Carraízo reservoir, a project financed with an investment of $107.1 million from both the federal government and PRASA.

“The Carraízo reservoir plays a vital role in ensuring access to drinking water for over 171,387 families,” stated Pierluisi in a written announcement. “I extend my gratitude to FEMA [the Federal Emergency Management Agency] and PRASA for their support on this initiative.”

According to Pagán Crespo, 600,000 cubic meters of material have been removed, with project completion expected by August 2025, thereby enhancing the resilience of the raw water supply system that supports the Sergio Cuevas filtration plant.

The project is being executed by Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company. PRASA offers an interactive map to monitor the advancement of this and additional projects.
