Fiscal board grants salary increase for cafeteria staff

---

On Monday, the School Food Authority alongside Education Secretary Yanira Raíces Vega revealed that the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico has sanctioned the Classification and Compensation Plan for 3,042 employees working in school cafeterias.

“We are delighted with the Board’s announcement regarding the plan’s approval,” stated Raíces Vega in a written statement. “This stems from thorough work and discussions with the staff.”

The plan aims to assist workers across various sectors, including food specialists, supervisors, nutritionists, and refrigeration technicians, among others.

Following an analysis that commenced in September 2023, the Department of Education presented the proposal in June. Not every cafeteria employee will see a salary increase, as some already earn market-equivalent wages.
