On Thursday, Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia revealed that he has enacted various laws aimed at enhancing the welfare of senior citizens, ensuring road safety for youth, and assisting nonprofit groups.

One of the laws he approved is House Bill 1195, which modifies Law 58-2018, referred to as the “Law to Promote Well-Being and Improve the Quality of Life of Older Adults.” This amendment aims to fortify the “Master Entrepreneurship” initiative, which is intended to empower seniors to launch their own enterprises, while also creating new programs to enhance transportation options for older adults. Furthermore, it mandates that governmental agencies must incorporate a section in their reports detailing the implementation and success of senior-focused programs, ensuring increased transparency and public oversight.

The governor additionally approved House Bill 1769, which initiates the “Protective Seat Collection, Reuse, and Recycling Program.” This initiative focuses on gathering and reusing protective and booster seats for children, offering a safety solution for families who may find it challenging to purchase these crucial items.

Moreover, House Bill 1541, which amends Law 73-2019, has been officially signed into law. This amendment exempts nonprofit organizations that do not charge government entities for their services from incurring costs associated with obtaining eligibility certificates.
