The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned in its 8:00 AM bulletin this Sunday that Invest 98L continues to show signs of organization.
According to the agency, the system, which is located about 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, has environmental conditions conducive to becoming a tropical depression in the coming days.
Given this scenario, the NHC has increased the probability of cyclonic development of the Invest to 70% in the next 48 hours. At 2:00 AM today, that probability was at 60%.
“A tropical depression is likely to form within the next few days as the system approaches or passes over the Leeward Islands. Interests in these islands should continue to monitor the progress of this system,” the NHC anticipated while warning that advisories could be issued for this area later today.
Invest 98L could approach parts of the Lesser Antilles by midweek.
Forecasts related to Puerto Rico include heavy rain starting Wednesday, mainly for the east, southeast, and south, and to a lesser extent for the north. However, this outlook could change at any moment depending on the development of the system, so it is important for the public to stay alert to the bulletins from the National Weather Service and review emergency plans for natural phenomena with their entire family.
