Tourist falls to his death at Cabo Rojo Lighthouse

The Bureau for Emergency Management and Disaster Administration confirmed this afternoon that they located the body of Edgar Garay Pagán, the 27-year-old tourist who fell Sunday off a cliff at the Los Morillos lighthouse in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico is a resident of Indiana and was enjoying a recreational trip at the time of the incident, the United States Coast Guard said.

Divers from the “Strike Force” in the Mayagüez area of the Nmead found his body.

Authorities indicated that Garay Pagán supposedly left San Juan for the southwest coast of the Island and that he was last seen at around 5:37 p.m. near the lighthouse.

Coast Guard watchmen received a call at 6:50 p.m. from a 9-1-1 Emergency System operator who reported the incident. A witness said that she saw Garay Pagán stumble towards the edge of the cliff, which is about 100 feet high. A Coast Guard MH-60T helicopter unsuccessfully conducted multiple search patterns overnight.

In addition to the Coast Guard, personnel from the United Rapid Action and Emergency Management Forces are collaborating in the search.
