Alleged Casino “Hacker” Arrested in San Juan

Edmanuel Victoria, a young man born in Cuba and residing in Florida, was accused last night of manipulating a digital roulette wheel in the Marriott Hotel casino, in Condado (San Juan, Puerto Rico), and the authorities do not rule out that he is part of an organization that is dedicated to hacking slot machines in different parts of the United States.

Casino security noticed on December 2 that a player “manipulated the machine with a “key”, more than 17 times.”

On December 9, Victoria, 28, returned to the casino. The hotel security manager made a civil arrest. At the time of the arrest, Victoria’s photograph had been sent to other casinos and there was an alert.

According to the Police, it was established that he had committed a fraud of $9,600 on one occasion and $9,575 on another and it is not ruled out that in other casinos he managed to obtain more money using a “key” to alter the operations of digital roulette machines.

The casino and Jesús Hernández Torres, from the Gaming Commission, filed the complaint and it was investigated by agents of the San Juan Criminal Investigation Corps.

When he was arrested, the “key” and $14,109 in cash that he was hiding in his genital area were seized.

Prosecutor Ivette Nieves presented the charges before Judge Glenn Velázquez, who determined cause for arrest for two articles of fraud and set him a $40,000 bail, which he posted.

The preliminary hearing was scheduled for December 22 in room 605 of the San Juan Judicial Center.
