A man died in an accident while driving a stolen truck from Fire Sation station 1 on Emma Rodríguez street in Isla Verde, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, after falling from a bridge on the 65th Infantry Avenue.
Although the truck left with sirens on and in an “apparent” response to an emergency at dawn on Sunday from its station, it was not the firefighters who were on board, but a homeless man who stole the truck.
The truck was valued at over $200,000 and it unleashed a chase throughout the Baldorioty de Castro expressway.
The individual knocked at the station’s doors and indicated that he needed a place to sleep, but they never imagined that hours later he would steal a fire truck.
The Municipal Security Department will meet in the next few hours to seek alternatives to avoid this type of situation.
