2 Federal Agents injured, 1 dead in Cabo Rojo, PR

Three federal maritime operations agents of the Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) were injured this morning, Thursday, in the middle of a shooting during an intervention with a vessel on the high seas, about 14 nautical miles off the coast of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico.

According to the spokesman for the federal agency, Jeffrey Quiñones, the agents, while patrolling the area, approached a boat that was heading towards the island.

“As we approached the boat, what we know is that there was a shooting and our agents were injured,” he said in an interview.

A federal coastguard helicopter rescued the injured at sea and they were transported to the Centro Medico hospital.

At the moment, it is unknown if the authorities managed to arrest the occupants of the boat or if they were also injured during the shooting.

The events were reported around 8:45 in the morning, indicated the Press Office of the Police.
