The mayor of Morovis, Puerto Rico, Carmen Maldonado González, endorsed the aspirations of the civic leader of the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Puerto Rican María Quiñones Sánchez, who is running for mayor of the city in the elections on May 16, 2023.
“Maria is an extraordinary leader with many years of public and community service. She, in particular, has been characterized by the control of the rights of Hispanics, as well as the disadvantaged communities of the city of Fraternal Love. María also has, and this is very important!, great experience leading the budget of important projects in the Philadelphia City Council”, Maldonado pointed out.
Quiñones Sánchez has been the councilwoman for the Seventh District in Philadelphia, whose neighborhoods have been impacted by many factors such as crime and solid waste management. For her part, the Democratic candidate pointed out that “for me it is a joy to receive the endorsement of Carmen Maldonado, a mayor who has worked very hard for her town, particularly after hurricanes Irma, María and Fiona. For us it is important that Puerto Ricans here and there are in constant contact. We are brothers from the same country and from the same heart.”
Maldonado also pointed out that “María Quiñones was the first Puerto Rican on the city’s Municipal Council and she will be the first female mayor of Philadelphia. I urge all Puerto Ricans and Latinos in the city to vote massively for María. Beyond being a woman, she is a person with extensive experience and ability.”
María Quiñones’ resume also highlights that she directed the Philadelphia office of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) during the Sila M. Calderón administration. Her visit to the island is due to the official meeting of the Hispanic group SOMOS, which held its annual convention.
