The scandal over the $300 million-dollar contract of the Electric Power Authority to the Montana private company Whitefish has greatly affected the image of Ricardo Rossello’s government, not only on the island, but also in the United States Congress. And despite having announced the cancellation of the dubious agreement, the resident commissioner of PR in Washington D.C., Jenniffer González, pointed out that now the lack of credibility could harm the further granting of federal funds that the island needs in the middle of the state of emergency.
Mutual aid agreements were never looked at until this weekend (42 days later), when Governor Rossello finally responded after the Whitefish deal was terminated. Offers for help from the state of Florida and the American Public Power Association (APPA) were never answered by the government.
