A man of undefined immigration status was injured during an exchange of fire with federal authorities during an intervention in the Mona Passage carried out in the morning hours of today, Tuesday.
The victim suffered injuries in different parts of the body, for which he had to be transported to the Mayagüez Medical Center in an emergency.
The Puerto Rico Police was alerted to the situation by the staff of the hospital institution.
The wounded man was traveling on a boat that was allegedly transporting cocaine.
Personnel from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) were allegedly in charge of the operation in which the contraband was detected.
The federal agency took over the investigation.
