The Highway Patrol Bureau has in custody the driver suspected of running over and dismembering a 62-year-old pedestrian after hitting him with his car in Río Grande, Puerto Rico during the early hours of Monday.
According to preliminary data, the events were reported around 2:50 a.m. at kilometer 24.1 of the PR-3 highway, when the suspect, identified as Julio Jiménez Rosario, age 27, was driving a blue 2021 Kia Rio car at a speed greater than that permitted by law and under the influence.
The assistant commissioner of the business, Lieutenant Elvis Zeno, explained that after running over the pedestrian, his legs were left on the road and he drove to his residence in the Kuwait neighborhood of the Vietnam sector, in Río Grande, with his torso embedded in the windshield.
“He kept driving with the body inside the car, continued with the body inside the car to his residence. He hit him with the front part, the pedestrian was ejected, penetrated through the front glass, falling on the ‘dash’ and the passenger seat, ”explained the lieutenant. The legs of the pedestrian laid on the road.
When he arrived at his residence, he parked the car in reverse and entered his home, scattering the human remains and brain matter on the balcony and the hallway that leads to the living room. “The mother sees the body and reported it to the police, she did the right thing,” Zeno said.
In the pockets of the deceased, an identification without a photo of a resident of the Galateo neighborhood in Río Grande was found, for which the relatives were instructed to go to the Institute of Forensic Sciences to identify the body.
The driver showed 0.19% of alcohol level in his blood, Zeno said. The limit allowed by Law 22 of Vehicles and Traffic to drive a motor vehicle is 0.08%.
It is “the first time we see something like this,” said Zeno, who has been in the police force for almost 29 years.
