Ex-partner of Adaly Santiago confesses

Boxing coach José Arnaldo Alvarado Machado remained silent and crestfallen as he left the Guayama police headquarters, where he was detained for several hours for the murder of his ex-partner, Adaly Santiago Ramos, in Salinas, Puerto Rico.

Alvarado Machado was transferred to the Guayama Court of First Instance where the Public Ministry filed charges for femicide and violation of the Arms Law.

Judge Rebecca Vera Ríos set bail of $1,250,000, which he could not pay, so he will be sent to prison directly.

The preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 10.

“According to the investigation, Alvarado Machado inflicted several wounds on the victim with a knife, for which he faces a charge under article 93(E) of the Criminal Code, which typifies femicide, and another charge under article 6.06 of the Law of Weapons for the carrying and use of a knife”, explained the prosecutor Héctor Vilaró Suárez, coordinator of the specialized unit of Gender Violence, Sexual Crimes and Child Abuse of the Guayama Prosecutor’s Office.

The boxing coach was arrested today and would have confessed to the crime before the authorities, hours after arguing with his ex-partner.

During the alleged confession, the man acknowledged having slit Adaly’s throat in her home located in the Las Mercedes urbanization.

After making the alleged admissions, Alvarado Machado was transferred to the Guayama Prosecutor’s Office, where prosecutor Yojaira Rodríguez Pagán planned to take an affidavit from him.

Other witnesses to the crime, the sixth femicide that occurs this year, were also brought to the Prosecutor’s Office.

The woman would have come to the white and turquoise house of Alvarado Machado after she called her to meet and talk to her about a very big problem that she was facing.
