A 28-year-old tourist was seriously injured last night, when he was shot in the chest in the middle of a carjacking on Barranquitas street, in Condado (San Juan, Puerto Rico). Video and security footage of the scene is being investigated.
According to police, the victim, Trea Mikell, residing in Massachusetts, was at about 11:25 last night in a dark green Jeep Wrangler, model 2021, near the place where he was staying in the surroundings of Parque Ventana al mar.
The Jeep was rented and the tourist who was supposed to return to his home in Massachusetts today was making arrangements to deliver it.
Some armed individuals approached him to snatch his Jeep and in the middle of the robbery he was shot in the chest. He was helped by paramedics who took him to a hospital.
The Jeep was recovered, crashed, in the early hours of the morning, at kilometer 2.2 of PR-0676, in the Bajuras de Vega Alta sector.
Agents from the San Juan Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) began the investigation.
