Plantain Thieves caught in Utuado

Judge Cyndia E. Irizarry Casiano, of the Arecibo Court, determined cause for the arrest of two men and a woman on criminal charges related to the theft of plantains/bananas from a farm located in the Angeles neighborhood of the town of Utuado, Puerto Rico. It is unknown if a video of the thieves will be used as proof.

The defendants, identified by the Puerto Rico Police as Ángel M. Valentín López, Gabriel Oquendo Román and Andrea R. Pérez Ramos, were accused of illegal appropriation.

The magistrate set individual bail of $20,000 for each of the defendants.

It was indicated that Oquendo Román and Pérez Ramos, 23 and 20 years old, respectively, provided bail through a private guarantor.

Instead, Valentín López, 30, was sent to prison after failing to post bail.

The events imputed to the trio occurred on April 2 at a farm located on Highway 6602.

The Police did not specify the amount of bananas/plantains that the defendants allegedly stole.
