Video: An intervention for violations of the public order code in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, and the lack of control in the streets led the municipal police to request reinforcements after people began to throw beers at them and attack them by throwing trash and other objects at them, while also “chanting” slurs at the agents.
So far no arrests have been reported and the reason for the large crowd of people has not been officially reported either. The video was recorded by a bystander and is being reviewed by the police as part of the investigation.
In other news, Juan López Martínez, 35, was booked into jail late last night on charges of two attempted murders, violations of the weapons Law, charges of domestic violence and violating a protection order.
Judge Yarissa Santiago, of the Court of Caguas, set him a bond of $1,250,000, which he did not pay.
López Martínez allegedly injured his ex-partner and another woman with a knife at noon on Monday, hours after he posted bail of $30,000, on charges of gender violence.
López Martínez, a neighbor of Cayey, had been arrested early Sunday morning, when he broke into the victim’s house and attacked her with his hands. He was arrested and charged. Judge Santiago, in that first case, determined cause for arrest for gender violence and set a $30,000 bond, which he paid.
