The president of the Federal International Affairs and Status Committee of the House of Representatives, José Aponte Hernández, announced through a press release that an inspection and investigation will be made to the facilities of the Central Post office in Hato Rey (San Juan) with the objective of evaluating the complaints of citizens related to the sending of letters and parcels to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
The legislator, acknowledged the disruption that Maria has caused in all areas of society, including in the services provided by the postal service of the United States and said that the reason for the investigation is to provide the mechanisms to the House to be able to assist in this situation.
“Since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico a little more than a month ago, we have been receiving complaints about delays in the delivery of letters and packages by the mail system. There are also allegations that customers are being charged for three-day delivery services, but the package arrives at your destination within a week or more. Also, there are allegations of lost or stolen packages. All this we are going to study, “said Aponte Hernández.
“We are aware of the damage that Maria caused in Puerto Rico, as well as the commitment to the people that the workers of the postal system have, but there are some concerns that we have to investigate in order to serve as aid in the efforts being made , bringing a clear message to our people of how they are handling the receipt and distribution of letters and packages, “added the representative.
