Reynaldo Izquierdo and Betzaida del Valle were identified as the couple who burned to death today in a fatal accident reported on the PR-52 expressway, heading from San Juan to Caguas in Puerto Rico.
Police reported that the victims, Izquierdo and Del Valle were between 32 and 35 years old.
According to the preliminary investigation, the driver was driving in a luxury car convoy at apparent high speed when he crashed his luxurious McLaren into a white pickup truck at kilometer 7.3 in front of the Montehiedra shopping center, losing control and colliding with a metal fence next to the highway. Due to the impact, the car caught fire and the couple got trapped inside and were burned, according to police.
The McLaren is a sports car that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The officers are also investigating if the pickup truck involved in the accident was in the group of cars or if it was a person from outside the convoy where Izquierdo and Del Valle were going.
Agents from the San Juan Traffic Division are investigating the incident.
