Caught on Video – More than a million customers in Puerto Rico remained without power for more than 72 hours after a fire at a power plant caused an island-wide blackout that forced the US territory to cancel classes and close government offices.
The blackout also left some 200,000 customers without water and clogged traffic across the island, where 3.2 million people live, where the noise of generators and the smell of diesel filled the air. Those without generators and with medical conditions such as diabetes, which depend on refrigerated insulin, worried about the lack of electricity.
Today, the electric grid is not 100% stable. The PR power authority is working to restore power fully, and some areas might not get service for a few more days.
Security cameras captured the exact moment of the explosion.
