Video: Police Commissioner Antonio López Figueroa said on Saturday that they will not leave the Vista Hermosa Housing complex until they find those responsible for shooting a police officer at dawn.
“In the early hours of today, while most of us were sleeping, my police officers were working to ensure the safety of everyone on the roads. After a call to stop, several individuals, who have no respect for the lives of others, fled and ended up shooting ruthlessly those who were just doing their duty. One of my police officers was seriously injured.
Anyone who shoots a police officer must know that he is attempting against the life of someone who went out to protect my family, but also his own.
Rest assured that we are not going to move from Vista Hermosa, until we achieve the arrest of all those responsible for this incident,” said the commissioner in written statements.
At around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, the agents of the Police Bureau were in the middle of a traffic law pursuit and upon entering the residential premises, an individual got out of a vehicle and multiple shots.
The agent, from the San Juan Motorized Unit, is in critical condition at the Río Piedras Medical Center.
Agents from the federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the federal National Security Agency (HSI) and the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) collaborate in the investigation.
Update: The agent is in critical condition at the hospital, fighting for his life and allegedly opened his eyes and moved his extremities as a response to specific exercises.
